Of course there is the wine: South Africa is the 8th biggest producer of wine in world - producing more than 10 million hectoliters a year. In 2021, the Wine Association of South Africa (WOSA) counted 536 producers and wine estates. WOSA also states that 90 512 hectares in South Africa are under vine.
Chenin Blanc, Pinotage, Shiraz and Cabernet Saugvignon win regularly prizes at famous wine competitions around the world. At the decanter awards 2022 for instance a South African Chenin Blanc - Ken Forrester Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc 2021 - caused a stir, winning "Best in Show" with 97 points.
The other aspect that makes the Cape Winelands so special is the breathtaking landscape. There are various mountain ranges that can be seen from the wine estates in Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Paarl and beyond - their peaks reach up to more than 2000 meter.
